1. Different protective effects
According to the yoga foundation of the practitioner, generally for those who are just beginning to do yoga, it may be better to choose a thicker mat, such as 6mm thick, in order to prevent sports injuries. But you ca n’t choose too thick mats because you are afraid of pain. If it is too thick, it will easily lose balance during exercise, and the center of gravity will be unstable, which will cause lameness. If you have a certain foundation, you can choose a yoga mat with a thickness of about 3.5mm-5mm. Ashes fans and professional yogis generally use 1.5-4 mm thick yoga mats.
2. Different degree of anti-slip
If you learn yoga based on softness training, most of the time you sit on the mat, then the mat is thicker and softer, and you will sit more comfortably. However, if the yoga you learn is based on the jump-type Power Yoga or Ashtanga Yoga, the mats must not only be too thick, but also have higher requirements on slip resistance.
The mat is too soft, and standing on it will be difficult to do a lot of movements, especially tree-type and other balance movements are the most obvious. Some more sophisticated people also feel that too thick yoga mats hinder their contact with the ground and so on. In addition, this kind of yoga movement that sweats a lot, if there is no better anti-skid mat, slipping will occur.
